As a reader, I don’t like waiting for sequels. Reacquainting myself with the world is often awkward, the quality can be uneven, the focus can shift significantly, and like with all books, sometimes I’m a whole different person by the time the next book comes out. I’m finally revisiting the Animorphs series after falling off somewhere around book #30 (highly recommend reading them as an adult!), and then of course there are the series that haven’t gotten their endings, and there’s no guarantee they ever will (a topic about which I am eternally torn and may write a blog about someday).

When I set out to write the Shades of Humanity trilogy, I knew I wanted to write them in sequence so that internal consistency would be easier and because of a vague hope that this would make me more marketable. But I also really wanted to release them in quick succession so that fans wouldn’t have to wait, either.

So, while I still feel so behind with self-publishing (surely I’ll have the energy to do outreach for reviews and blurbs eventually?), I want to stick to that, for better or worse. Which means this…

…needs to be replaced with this, and pronto!
